This would have to be the easiest way of converting any
leaf sprung end car to Di Dion fully independent.

Just needs shortened driveshafts, top frame for mounting
your choice of LSD centre/casing and use your leafs.

Doesn't the bar tieing the wheels together defeat the whole purpose of IRS? Or is the goal to use a more redily available LSD diff?

Me old mum drives a volvo 360. She'd go postal if I borrowed the rear axle from it. lol

This setup means that when the wheels rebound, there is also no camber change which is great for traction, and that's the first advantage of a de Dion Tube. The second advantage is that it contributes to reduced unsprung weight in the vehicle because the transfer case / differential is attached to the chassis of the car rather than the suspension itself. More recently deDion suspension has had somewhat of a renaissance in the specialist sports car and kit car market such as those from Caterham, Westfield and Dax. These all uniformly now use outboard brake setups for ease-of-use... a well set up deDion system can often match it turn-for-turn now, especially for flyweight cars.

alloy diff choices- for a beast 300+ hp cant go past the explorer or ford 8.8

For the lighter weight brigade
Honda 4wd of all kinds have a very flat h165 height beauty

Ill measure the volvo tube and let you know DD

Yes DeDion suspension is well regarded and used by, among others, Alfa Romeos.

It guarantees no camber change (like a live axle) but with low unsprung weight.

But I guess it is not IRS... it is non-IRS

A de Dion tube is an automobile suspension technology. It is a sophisticated form of non-independent suspension and is a considerable improvement over the alternative swing axle and Hotchkiss drive types.

De Dion in kit car circles is very popular due to ease of track tuning and stability.

The rear wheel track is 1400mm so about 1300mm length for the tube

The following article shows the ease of the rear axles and how easy
it would be to re-drill to datsun stud patterns or anything else.

How wide is it?

Would be easy to tune with that DeDion configuration. IRS made easy!
