Excellent idea -- very low sprung weight as the diff is bolted to the chassis, and in this case even the disc brakes are unsprung

When making new it saves money over IRS, but when modifying/fabricating nowadays the IRS will cost the same
* for comfort, or for cornering onroad/offroad, best go with IRS
* for cornering on smooth pavement (especially on a skidpad) some prefer a non-IRS setup as there is zero camber changes to have to tune about

Alfa gtv has done well with them as has the volvo 440gt
they have excellent handling qualities, very predictable.

The honda actry weighs 670-750kg so its a good candidate
I would leave the drums or disc brakes off and use inboard
discs and calipers
