Used this method to hold the flywheel while I remove the bolts. It bent the bolt going to the block, but otherwise worked.

I had something similar using L steel
with tube for the bolt worked the same
way but lost it and vice grips are good.

This lock is made from some 3mm steel welded together. Musta made it at least 10 years ago. Use a short bolt to mount to the back of the block.


To be honest, I can hardly ever find it when undoing a flywheel and end up using a prybar behind a transmission bolt or rattling the bolts.

Nice idea, you could always find a tube to stick between the plate and block to take up some of the force

Love home engineering :)
I usually use 1 or 2 vice grips clamped on each side of fly
with two bolts in the similar places to stop any movement.
