Nissan Recall 86,429 Datsun For Latch

Officials of the Nissan Motor Corp. in U.S.A., the distributors of the Datsun line of cars and trucks in the U.S., have announced the implementation of a campaign to recall 86,429 Datsun 1200 coupes and sedans.

Pursuant to the provisions of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act, the specified automobiles will be recall to inspect for misalignment of the secondary hood latch between the hood and body.

Misalignment of this latch could result in complete disengagement of the latch if the primary hood latch was not properly engaged and the vehicle is subjected to strong wind pressure at high speeds causing the hood to come open and result in obstruction of the driver's forward vision.

Vehicles subject to the recall campaign are Datsun 1200 series passenger cars, both coupe and sedan models, manufactured between January 20, 1970 and October 13, 1971.

Certified letters will be sent to all Datsun 1200 owners whose vehicles fall within the specified range notifying them that they should return their cars to their nearest Datsun dealer where the secondary hood latch will be inspected with a special gauges. If the latch is out of alignment, the necessary adjustments will be made at no cost to the owner.

While at the dealership, primary latches will also be inspected for proper alignment.
