I took my airbox and tappet cover to be match sprayed to the body's color.
Tell me what you guys think.

 Re: My 1200GX
I'm trying to figure if these are the original carbs for this car. My GX carbs are round tops & i had assumed, rightly or wrongly, that all 1200GX's had round top carbs from new.
What was the original colour of the air filter? Mine is red, but i have seen a 120Y GX with a blue one & it had the square top carbs.
There was also an orange[ish] colour used on some L series twin carb air filters.

Does anyone know the correct names for the two diferent blues used on the engine block, & the rocker cover, as well as the correct name of the red used on the air filter?
Colour codes would be even better.

My old GX set up which I had assumed was a factory set up had square top Hitachis and a red air filter.

The flat-top Hitachis started in 1974, didn't they? Remember, the 1200 cars were made in South Africa until 1975.

 Re: My 1200GX
L18_B110 kindly sent me some pictures from Nostalgic Hero magazine showing what appears to be a couple of original, unrestored GX cars. The first was a blue 1200 coupe with square top carbs & red air cleaner assembly. The other was a 120Y GX four door with square tops & a powder blue air cleaner assembly.

The 120Y would be absolutely 100% correct, & the red air cleaner in the 1200 is likely the real deal, but for the moment, i have accepted that late, or very late 1973 Datsun 1200 GX's may have had square tops.

1200GXman's car may well be a '74 or '75 model, so,... since his family has had it from new, [i believe] perhaps he could let us know of its year of manufacture & the original air cleaner colour.

This is the original color before the color coding.(Please excuse the dust and dirt) Blue tappet cover and dark orange airbox. Some other GX models I saw here in South Africa had different colors.
I do not know if they maybe changed it yearly to different colors.

 Re: My 1200GX
I saw Dodgeman asking a bit about the car.
Yes. It is the Flattop Hitachi SU's.
Stock standard complete GX engine.
This is the car I was posting the Forum about running hot on the highway.
I luckily got some good replies.
Thanks for you all.
Basically I do not want to do anymore to the engine bay.
Maybe very later take the engine out and do a balance on all internals.
But that will be much later.
At the moment it has 25 000km on the engine.Me and my dad reconditioned it a while back.
