As promised the SR20DET transmission tunnel fabricated by a good mate. An S13 SR20DET box is being used with the handbrake relocated further back.

What have you done with the Heater unit?

Good point cable tie- Its kind of difficult to grt a car registered without one. tunnel looks good though......

have you moved the engine position back so that it needs that extra box section where the heater should be? I thought you could do the SR conversion without messing with the firewall

The original heater was removed and replaced with a custom made one using a small thermo fan (switch operated). It makes the original look ordinary.

You can do the SR conversion without moving the firewall back, however...

1. The further back the better for weight distribution
2. More cooling available with the engine sitting further back
3. Allows for correct mounting of gearbox, i.e. the gearbox sits higher when the transmission tunnell is completed. Having the box parallel with the diff relieves stress on the tailshaft and unis.

The heater mod sounds intriguing, tell us more ...

Exactly right about the SR20 aft placement.
Many have done the swap, but few have placed it optimally.

 Re: Transmission Tunnel SR20DET
so presumably the shifter ended up another (50mm?) further back...... Did you leave it there or do something to bring the lever position forward?

Heater uses the original core, a new bracket and aluminium cowling were fabricated and it was connected up as per original (using a small thermo fan). The ducts go up through the dash as per the original design. Best heater yet.

The box sits a little further back (yep approx 50mm), the shifter is designed so that it brings the stick forward.

Hope that makes sense?
