Where u arc or MIG welding? not a good idea to take a photo of either of them while they are arcing...the flash of the elctrode is pretty lethal to the eyes and through a camera lense it would magnify the strength of the light...watch ur eyes dude...dont wana go blind and not be able to drive...but i like the lack of safety protection...i wear about that when i weld...easier to manover when your not weighed down by protective crap

A couple of small burns while MIG Welding makes the job worthwhile.

Good action photo.

He's got his "Australian Safety Boots" on.

The size of the boy is not an issue. It's the size of the understanding of what can happen at a worksite, in a flash. Safety is safety, no matter who you, are or where you are. Get serious [sorry Feral]

An injury is an injury, at work or at play, at home or in the workplace.
You're right about the Rum. Leave any alcohol in the fridge [or where-ever] when working.
I remember watching a house burn to the ground, with a rare Chevy 2 door in the garage, because the owner wasn't at work, so work safety standards didn't apply when he was doing a welding repair, & a few beers wouldn't hurt anyone. He was too drunk to grab a garden hose, & i was too pi**ed off at his stupidity to hand it to him. That was back in about 1970 or '71 i think.

 Re: Right one
yeah but when i refer to him "big enough" or "old enough", i am refering to him knowing the implications of his actions. and this means because he is at home he doesnt have to follow a CODE of saftey. this is his chocie, as it is anybodys chocie whether they want to be 100% safe or 50% or 0% safe at home, meaning i dont think he needs to be told its not safe aka "big boy".

i have been at plenty of job site "roofing, building sites, Mining sites" where the saftey rules should be followed exactly. but even there people seem to slack off and think its ok to bend the procedure rules, its a unfortanate site.

Human decsion error is always a problem at home or work, but yes i agreee "Better to be Safer than sorry"

The garage / workshop appears to be under the house. That was the situation that i wrote of earlier. It brought back unpleasant memories.

Sorry Holeshot, i don't mean to pick on any individual person.

"She'll be right" is an expression no longer used around the work i do, & under Worksafe, or Comcare, the picture depicts, believe it or not, chargeable offences.
Now.... ask yourself,...why? When you know the answer, you won't offer a contrary view.

 Re: Right one
i know what ur saying..... but everything involves risk. And i have a garge under my house, if i had the moeny to build a huge shed with the proper facilties for my car and all the right and safe materials i would, but the fact is that not many pepole do and that means there is always gonna be dodgey garage's and back yard sheds but that doesnt mean they cant be safe , i would like to see the police try and enforce laws on every backyard car sheds and garages, would have to stop at every 2nd house

You have grasped my piont completely my friend, & i thank you for the exchange that has allowed me to vent my spleen.

The level of risk is only as high as we let it be, & allowing it to be higher than absolutely necessary is not, umm, ...wise.

Holeshot I am the same when i work in the garage. You have to be comfortable while you work. When its hot who wants to be wearing nice thick overalls?

But one thing I do have to point out, that nobody else bothered to is You are a man that thinks of safety in the workshop. Just look at the bubble wrap around the pole in the middle of the workshop. This tells me you are thinking of the safety of your car doors and also peoples safety when they have had 1 to many RUMs

YEP sure do.Put that there so I dont get a sore head when I trip on my safety thongs. Not to many of you have noticed the fuel tank is in the car.Its a new one, never had fuel in it.Things you find when you look hard.

Dodgeman, it sounds like you are the sort of people that I have to deal with on the work site. The phrase " so safe that they are dangerous " comes straight to mind. Yes, I am the first person to take necessary safety measures WHEN THEY APPLY TO THE JOB.

Most of the new things that we have to do at work in the last couple of years raises more safety issues than they solve. I, for one, can't concentrate properly when I'm wearing that much ####ing safety gear that I can hardly walk. And by the time I've filled out all the JSA's and other bullshit, my mind is so far off the job that i'm very likely to do something stupid.

You, as a safety officer, should be doing something to reverse all this bullshit. Safety officers these days are causing more accidents than they are preventing!!

I think every person is their own best regulator. They should be able to decide and be responsible for their own personal level of risk management. They must also ensure personal actions minimise hazards to both themselves and others.

I think the photo's great!!

I always work in the garage at home on the dats in barefeet and boardies etc..

That's the 'Kiwi' way. !!

I think you always know INSTINCTIVLY if you are doing something a bit unsafe - do you know what i mean?

Great pic !

I love the pic...great shot!

As feral says, we are our own best regulators. If it were me, I probably would have had a bit more gear on.....but that's just me.

At least you werent mowing the lawn with the thongs on......like my neighbour was last weekend!

You got it in one T&T

I am the O H & S officer at work & if i saw anyone, even a contractor who was doing a job for us, working like that, their future employment would be in VERY serious jepoardy.
Overalls with sturdy boots, & welding gauntlets. MINIMUM.

Screening the job so that innocents [like photographers] are not subject to the welding arc is also very high on the safety list.

Sorry Holeshot, but we take safety SERIOUSLY
