Back in Marck of ;04 when I wrote that post, I was not aware that early 120Y's used the H145, but have learned it since.

Thanks for the reminder,

It looks likes a part of one of the locking tab washers off the bolts that mount the gear to the centre.

 Re: Look what I found!!!!!
Thats the million dollar question????

Might be worth dropping it out to check the basic bits are all OK.
Just remove the tailshaft at the diff, disconnect the handbrake stuff if you have it, drain the oil, remove rear wheels and brake drums, undo rear axle bolts, pull the axles out, then unbolt the diff centre and take it out and put it on the bench. The piece is big enough to find where it came from, just have a good look and you will find if there is a problem.
It's about as easy as that.

Sedan diff? Stronger?
Model for model, the removable third member is identical for sedan & coupe.

If your diferential assembly is faulty, you will need to either get it overhauled, or replace it with a used servicable unit & this may prove to be the practical & economic alternative.

Actually dodgeman the sedan diff is a borg warner where as the coupe diff is something from Japan. the borg warner is bigger and stronger.

Team_Dat, are you thinking about the 120Y diff? The 1200 diffs sedan or coupe are the same (all Japan-assembled cars).

 Re: Look what I found!!!!!
The Borg Warner rear axle assembly was used in Australian built 120Y's from June 1976. Thats why i wrote "model for model" [imported compared to imported models etc.]

Cars before this date were imports & used the Japanese Diff. Some models were never produced here, so were imported for the full model run & these continued to use the Jap diff.
This diff is an H150 unit, which is a little bigger & stronger than the H145 that was used in the 1200. I don't know the model number for the 1000 diff as it is diferent from the 1200 unit, but is interchangeable none-the-less.
I keep seeing this statement about the Warner diff being so strong, but have yet to see any real evidence that it is true.
From personal experience I can say that they are a real pain to service.

 Re: Look what I found!!!!!
from what i can tell then the 120Y has the same Diff as a 1200 pre 1976 and regardless all the coupes had the smaller H145 but would lik either the ute diff or the 120y sedan or wagon diff built after 1976 for added strength.

 Re: Look what I found!!!!!
Sedan mounts differntly too the coupe and wagon I'm pretty sure. It is doable though, the shock mounts need modification. Going into a coupe you should be able to chop them off the sedan diff and use the existing mounts on the spring clamp. I dunno, it has been a while, have a good look, i'm pretty sure it is like that.

The ute diff has the brake line on the opoisite to a sedan. An the mounts need to be welded on. I have done this and want to sell it, if you are heading to brisbane that is. . .

 Re: Look what I found!!!!!
i fitted the sedan diff without problem the shock absorber mounts were wrong but i used the coupe U-bolt plates under the leaves instead of the sedan ones so i didn't have to adjust any mounts... i am very happy with my new diff with the much better up high ratio so there is no more 6,000 rpm at 100kmh in 4th. damn rare 5spd's

 Re: Look what I found!!!!!
you forgot the VERY early model 120Y's Dodgeman... they ran H145's

I have 3 120Y's a July '74 a July '75, and a March' 77

the July '74 has a H145 not sure if I sohould ditch it for The Defects' BW68...

I have a spare H150 centre but can't be bothered making the 2.5 millimetre spacer
