i was in the datsun, waiting patiently in traffic, then i noticed thru rearview someone in their car a few cars back was not stopping. then along came the smash! smash! smash! a few cars all sandwiched together and mine was in the middle. it was an old feller down on holidays from QLD who hadnt noticed the stopped traffic and slammed into the back of the daihatsu in the photo above (whitecar) which inturn plowed into my car then i just hit the person infront.. luckily i'd noticed the oncoming idiot and used the brake to stop my car from slamming the commodore infront of me. (notshown above). the daihatsu was a writeoff which was cool since my towbar had been almost the sole reason it was left in that condition. it took so much force and was left bent like a biharch but it saved my datto.

so so so lucky the datsun was not smashed more. insurance will hopefully give me new front/rear bumper, new towbar, hopefully new front panels and new grill and some body work at the back above the bumper and she should be back better than before. no lights broken although i was very lucky there too. also almost smashed up the electrican fan for the radiator but somehow my 14" wheels held on for their lives and stopped further frontal damage.

i advise against anyone driving the roads of sydney in a datsun. if you do, travel equipped with a big freakin towbar.

i know with shannons, my wagon although the engine just sits in it not conneced or even fully complete, and alot of work needed and so forth...its insured for $5000..and its not running, no interior and so on

and yes i know its a little late.

with shannons if u want to insure your dato with them luke was asked heaps of questions...are you an enthusiast or just looking for cheaper insurance? how many datsuns do you have that sort of thing..he mentioned he was part of a "car club" meaning this site but they didnt ask what club!

NRMA insurance ppl responded.
so i got a cheque today in the mail (after harrassing them a few times) for the accident - they only gave me $1500 !
the letter said the cost to repair was more than it was worth.
im sure 1500 is enough to repair the damage and do more but .. if any1 writes off your datto you wont get much compensation drive safe

all u have to do is get an asseser to come out and u have as much paper work with u to prove that the car in its prior condition is worth more than they are saying.... it says market value..... so if u can provide 5- 10 cars in similar condition then that is true market value... i did this on my ute and got 3800 instead of the 1500 they were going to pay me. it says market value so they have to honour it. might not help now but in the future........

problem with our cars is they will probably try to write em off rather than fix em, be carefull of that, dont let em write it off, that would seriously suck and if you try you may be able to convince them not to write it off

thats what i always worry about, if someone does hit me, chances are me freakin car will be written off on me

yeah ive already shat bricks over that but there is so little body damage it would be crazy to write it off. it still drives fine - i had to drive out to nth richmond right after the accident anyway..

see if you can claim it as a write off and buy it back of the insurance company for less money...
There is no way that they will fix all that...
"Blue book value of your car is $1,000... New bumpers - $250, New panels - $200, tow bar - $150(?), new grill - $80, paint and labour - $400...
= $1080"

But hopefully they will...

usually you can buy it back, but it is at a price, seems odd, but probably worth it, just a lot of work building up a new car, then again compliance plates are only held in by screws, oops did i say that

that really sucks hey.

you are really luckly that the lights didnt smash though because theyt are truly hard to find. thats one thing i worry about when i get my wago on the road is the tail lights, if and when i come across a good set i am going to buy them, even though i don need them.
