ok after going though a couple of books of inserts sizes i came up with a pretty good thing for what i was after .
1981 nissan pulsar inserts are the same external size only shorter by 82 mm (3 1/4 in) so if you are after lower with out banging on the spring mounts this is a easy way to go only 10mm (3/8) shorter in the stroke ok i have the part number this time i have just done a set of 120y struts the same way but it had after market inserts allready and i had to cut the whole 82 mm off this time to suit the lock caps .
Monroe part number is (25-3436) replaces WGC-3436 , touring gas cartridge

So if your putting these into 1200/120y struts do you need to make the strut shorter???

They will fit in the stock uncut strut housings, just use a spacer to take up the slack (for example, a length of pipe).

But so will any Datsun 1200 strut insert fit in the stock housings. These however can be fitted to shortened housings, which are called for when lowering the car more than two inches.

is 82 or 75mm abit much? thats in excess of 4inch drop once you load the suspension up (droop)

I cut mine down 100mm but I think the late disc brake sunny truck struts are longer than the earlier ones. Not sure by how much though.

My ute is pretty low though.

So what was the actual length of the strut tube.

Here are some lengths relative to the Stanza struts.

stanza insert - 437mm
200b insert - 402mm
240z insert - 378mm

im pretty sure they are 362 mm long with the same stroke as a 440 if that helps

this is unproven but i was told that a VL commy insert fits and they are shorter again . as for bore size i cant tell u if they fit but i have two cars that have my conversion done and they bothe work fine

hi guys just to let u know u only remove 75 mm from the tube not the whole 82 that way u can use the original nuts and make sure u remove the original sharft seal from them aswell

Well... Let's revive this thread...

I'm trying to get my struts done... follow some advice from friend who suppose done it before. Needles to said have spend some cash and still no were.

Asking for advise, read the thread and still a bit confuse with the amount of info and my broken English.

Let start with what I want to accomplish and parts I already have.

Want to lower the car at least 3 inches...

I bought the MadDat Billet control arm Techno Toy coilover and camber plate adjuster. and a set off 310 struts .

Need help choosing the correct insert for the 310 struts
