The guy who sand blasted it used very fine high quality imported sand and the sill tht is hiding is not tht bad just some small holes but i,ve already got new sills made up so its fearly straight.

oh yeh Blair the back end turned out to be quite clean and straight

I have heard that sand blasting distorts panels .

Sand blasting can distort panels depending upon thickness and type of metal used in the panels, ive seen this first hand. If you really want to blast your car clean of paint and rust the best way to do it nowadays is by walnut shell blasting. It supposedly involves less friction and is better for cars with thin panels.

only way to remove rust completely, the sand blaster did not blast square onto panels but blasted at an angle to reduce friction and pressure

Re: Datto after a good blastin
I asked that same question 12 years ago when I was faced with the restoration of the SSS. The answer is that all is laid bare for you, all the inner door frames and those fiddly bits that you simply can't effectively get at to rub back - all stripped back to bare metal and once painted giving you back that nice, crisp, sharp look of a new car!
However it can be a pretty demoralising exercise, I have seen some absolute shockers that looked fine prior to being blasted and once the paints off and the bog gone one is left to ponder on 'what the hell have I done!
It definitly is worth it though.
And for that matter if you are getting keen bead blasting all suspension components is great too. Quick and clean- 30 + years of dirt and whatever just wiped off leaving a nice porous surface that just sucks up black gloss to give a very nice, as new finish.
Cheers
Dave

if thats just been sand blasted, it looks like you've got yourself a pretty decent shell there....
although the trailer ramps look like their hiding a fair bit of rust in the sill
