Yes its real.......I got my dash in today and fired Monty up pull my foot flat(warmed him up first) and look what happened!!!

Dont worry about the temp gauge as I have an aftermarket one hooked up.

Mate I have an aftermarket temp gauge fitted, and my gauge in the dash is not hooked up

8000rpm is a fair bit for free reving. ie no weight on the motor. I'd feel much safer at 8k in 1st or second. Less chance of something letting go. Hey but if shes good for it go for it.

Be skeptical of the factory tach's precision at those kind of rpms, it's not as accurate!! I installed a 10k rpm tach after I noticed mine started bouncing around at 7500 rpm

Any engine topping out the tach revving to 8000 is a sweet thing, especially the Datsun 1200! Be careful free revving that high though, don't want to over-rev!

Dont worry Monty will not be rev hard like this ever again, as it was fun once and we wont be playing with this sort of fire power again.
