Did the SSS come out with Dellortos? What exhaust did they use?

 Re: the SSS engine
the exhaust is 4-2-1 cast headers they have a flange after they go into 2. i have put a flange at the end of the headers for easy removeal.
the crabs are 40's. i have a piar of ramco aircleaners coming and will be putting proper accelerater linkage. my only problem is i can not find where they vacum goes from the dizzy to the carbs. anybody help?

Anywhere there is a vacuum....... like off the inlet manifold, even drill a hole thread it and put the hose there.

 Re: the SSS engine
very nice looking SSS

my single dcoe manifold has a hose attachment which can go str8 onto the stock dizzy.

according to my weber books you arent meant to use a vacuum advance. when my 42mm dcoe went in it was dyno tuned without the vacuum advance. thread avail with stats of dyno somewhere on this site.
since then i have experimented putting it on a taking it off and retuning the mixture between. (not changing engine timing) i have done a few good tests on highways and driving it around and have found this.
-with vacuum plug on dizzy : (manifold to dizzy linked)
more audible dizzy spinning speed at idle (800rpm)
more crackly sounds from exhaust all the time. dead spots around 4000-5000 revs
overall OK
-without vacuum plug on dizzy: (both ends blocked)
less crackles
happier idle at (5-600rpm)
no dead spot, more power on into 4000+ revs
seems more fuel efficient
overall better than OK

 Re: the SSS engine
NYET on the manifold vacuum to the distributor. If this was good, the factory would have done it & saved a fortune on carbs with ported vacuum.
The manifold will provide a high vacuum signal at idle, but the distributor wants to see no vacuum at all when idling, thats why they have the distributor vacuum port on the aircleaner side of the throttle plate when it is closed.

As the throttle plate opens, the vacuum port can "see" more of the manifold vacuum & everything is sweetness & light. If you use direct manifold vacuum, your engine idles with normal static advance, plus full vacuum advance [assuming that your engine actually produces vacuum at idle]. This messes with your low speed running. Not a good thing.
