Re: Piston rings - which way up?
Right so in the manual it clearly states that the 2nd groove ring (compression ring) must
have the beveled edge pointing upwards but in the handout in the rings box it said it should be downwards....Im confused and need this info before going ANY further!!

Advice plz!
Cheers
Dave

the bevelled edge is there to dodge the ridge in the bore, as alot of people don't go to the expence of a rebore

so therefore the bevelled edge must face upwards other wise it could catch on the side right?!

So I believe, I am no engineer though and it has been a while since my last rebuild, But from memory the bevelled ring was on the top, Repco brought them out as ridge dodgers (protec rings).

Follow the instructions on the packaging that the rings came in. If you bought factory Datsun rings that were identical to the originals,... then the book info would apply.
If they are "replacement" rings, stick with the ring manufacturers instructions.

If they are ACL or similar they will have a dot or mark on the top of the ring near the ring gap.
Check the ring gaps before fitting to the pistons..

Have a look here

Ring install

As I was told many years ago: (sexual content?)

In regard to the bevel/chamfer on the ring:

If it is on the inside, it is UP

If it is on the outside, it is DOWN

Just like bedroom activity. Hey, it has helped me remember it all these years on!
