This pic was taken during the first session the car was on the track. We were taking it pretty easy at this satge, making sure that the brakes and everything else on the car were working properly.

Can't wait to get out to the track and TRY to catch you (lol)

Re: First day at the track
Thanks guys,

Still got heaps of work to do before we are anywhere near competitive. Although I was happy with the first hit out, I was also a little dissapointed. We only managed to clock a 1:27 on the GP circuit, which is a full second slower than the old car (1600 with NA FJ20).

The positive side is...... we have sooo much we can do to go faster. The brake balance was all wrong, we were on old tyres, we have too much castor (yes you can have too much), and I am very rusty after two and half years out of a race car!

I have no doubt we will be substantially quicker next time out......I am developing a plan for more speed..... I now have a baseline...so look out

Great job
You seem to be working up this car like a test pilot works up a new aircraft.
Take it easy & test the limits steadily, then back to earth & make adjustments or changes & test it again. Thats what development means.

I look foward to seeing the pictures of you being hotly persued [in vain] by the lesser marques. It's only a matter of time,... & money. [i hate that part]
Good fortune to you.

must have felt good to hit the track after all the hard work. It looks great.

I think to be only a second away from your completely sorted previous car's time on the very first shakedown is very promising - not dissapointing! The way you describe the handling and power delivery, you can expect to get massive chunks of time out of it quite easily.

Yeah...stacks of rotaries, plus the odd thumping 600-700hp V8.

There's a few other turbo's too....Early model Lancer, Early Audi, WRX's and some other datto's too.

mark, stewart wilkins has a h190 lsd with a 3.89.1 ratio with 29 spline axles,he mentioned it to a friend last monday or tuesday.he didn't say how much, however.just thought i'd tell
you about it,especially as you ran out of revs.
this was definitely in fifth.could it be wheel spin
making you think it'd revved out, especially on
old tyres.cause you'll be looking for a 3.5:1 for eastern creek,if one of those even exists.although you could get a 3.7:1,which is 37:10 & a 3.89:1,which is a 35:9,& go mix & match.that's just speculating,so if anyone knows this isn't going to work, don't be afraid to speak up.

Re: First day at the track
We finally got there...what a hoot!

The car was a real handful to drive, and we have quite a bit of work to do to get down to the times we want to be doing. At the moment the car has too much castor, the brake balance doesn't seem quite right, we need a bigger/thicker radiator, the cams definately need to changed, and some more tweaking in the suspension set-up cetainly wouldn't go a stray!

We had planned to do a race meeting atthe beginning of April at Eastern Creek, but I don't think the Diff ratio is going to be tall enough. We had the 4.11 in at OP GP circuit and we were hitting 5,000 rpm in top gear, and that's with me backing it off a little early for the kink....anyway, the car is not fast enough for my liking yet (neither am I for that matter)...so we willmake a number of changes to the car, and aim now for our first meeting at Oran Park in June.

Overall....I am very happy though, the car didn't fall apart, and was a lot of fun (and hardwork) to drive.....in fact, it would make an excellent drift car

Sounds like you had a ball the car looks great. Its pretty hard to put a car togetherand hope that it all right.Im sure bye the end of the season it will be up there with the big guys.
I would have thought 4.11 for eastern creek would be tall enough??? what kind of revs do you spin it too??
Good luck with it all.

With the restrictor...we only make power to just over 6,000rpm. The engine is built for the bigger revs.....We will try the 4.11 ..... and see what happens.

Over all it was a good day...and now we have a plan to go faster.

Mark.

Awsome, Mark!! What times were you doing. Was it the GP circuit or the south circuit?
