Re: a 14 head no markings
IVE read a few forums on these heads but want to know what head this is .I have one head at home stamped H89, and this one on the block says JAPAN, Nissan , with no other markings >WHY? The head on the block looks neater in the ports and deeper but the cast marks are untouched in the ports so it hasnt been ported .......
Maybe its a freak head from DATSUN NISSAN

Different topic but whats with your bottom radiator pipe being so small?? Its absolutley minuet!!

I aint good identifying the head but its got oval ports so its either gota be the H72, H74 or H98 head..i dont know how to identify BUT others will, years of experience!

Do a search on GX head, as this is what I think this is.

This engne also come wth a set of twin hitachi su type carbs which i sold to a 1200 member he said the manifold ports were larger than normal and worked well .
the reason the lower radiator hose being short was for a turbo set up i didnt finish but as for the motor it ran lumpy on idle but when it opened up it screamed have you got the rest of the engine or just the head who_your_datty_1200.........

sound like you had a GX engine or just the inlet manifold/head and carbies. No I dont have the engine. Just found the head in my travels

Notice the wee nobby bits where the threads sit for the manifold studs? that means it's a GX. The nimo ones have raised bits above the ports to.

My head number is h891 and it is a14 oval port with the water galleries for the manifold and the tall port manifold lined up with the port holes in the head. Ive checked this site and there is no info on the h891 head

I got hold of a spare A12GX head about 3 weeks ago.
Did'nt have time yet to post a pic to make you guys jealous.

From the looks of this head it looks exactly the same as my spare head.
It also has the Japan Nissan ontop like yours and also oval ports and water galaries and also not numbers to say what it is like H??.

To make sure, check your valve springs to see if it has a inner and a outer spring in each valve. Then it must be a GX head.
Pity you cannot take it off to look at the combustion chamber. That can give a clear answer.

My chambers were the little peanut type ones without the dirty big recession to lower the comp. Dont know about valvesprings as the head was recoed before I had it.

Re: a 14 head no markings
As far as I know the 1400GX head is VERY very scarce.
So maybe not a A14GX cylinder head but like B120dat's setup a A14 with a A12GX head.
I cannot believe nobody bought it quickly.
I bought my A12GX head for 400 South African Rand.
Took it in for a checkup at a cylinder head place.

This is what I have to do to use it IF I have to use it.
My A12 already has a GX head on it.
Replace all valves.
Replace double valve springs.
Replace valve guides and valve stem seals.
And a light skim to make it straight again.

But I am happy as a clown to have gotten a spare GX head.

Fortunately they're not rare here... I've got two A12 GX heads (free) and three A14 GX heads (free). The pictured head does look like a GX item.
