JONATHAN LANE from Fastlane auto did the dyno work and is very good at it, you would have to ask him why the touque and hp lines look different to others it still shows correct figures. this motor has now had the cam changed as all that power came on like a light switch and was undrivable, plus you could not get the power to the ground.GREG

The scale at the bottom says it is a 150 hp engine at 8080 rpm with 285 n/metres torque. Still a healthy engine.

 Re: A15 200hp ?
I agreee, a 150bhp A15 is a healthy engine. But that chart's from a chassis dyno, so they're claiming 150 at the wheels. I've said before that I've seen this car at numerous sprint and hillclimb events - its in a very neat little 1000 2dr sedan. When they told me at the first Supersprint last year that they had 150 at the wheels, I was amazed and decided to watch this little thing on the track - with slightly more power and alot less weight than my car it should have been an absolute animal! But when I saw it go, I just figured they had got the bhp numbers confused with the flywheel figure, which as you say is still very good for an A15. It goes well, but it isn't a 200bhp engine.

I posted this in a thread about the engine, but I'll post it again here. The grqaph doesn't quite add up:

1) Torque is shown in metric units (Nm), while Power is in imperial units (bhp).

2) Power and torque are always equal at 5252rpm, no ifs, buts or maybes. At least they are when the same units are used... But when you convert the torque at 5252rpm to ft-lb, say 237.5Nm * 0.738 = 175.275ft-lb its not even close.

3) peak power is exactly 150bhp at 8058rpm, and hasn't finished rising. And it won't finish rising until some time after the torque curve drops away.

4) The graph starts at 3500rpm, where the engine already has over 100bhp at the wheels! But peak torque occurs just under 7500rpm! That is one amazingly flexible engine! and one awful fat torque curve - in fact its more of a torque line than a curve.

 Re: A15 200hp ?
I recently had my rallycar on Mike Vines Dyno Dynamics dyno, at 6300 rpm my max h.p. was 125 at rear wheels. My question is what would that equate to at the motor, I do have a figure from the dyno's power loss calculator and I guess I'm just interested in what some of the more experienced people on this site would guess.

Does anyone know the specs of this engine?
Bored?
Cam?
Head?
I've seen the 1000 2 door in action(if it's the same one) at Mt cotton and at QR(Queensland Raceway) it did a 51 at Mt cotton last time i saw it, and i can't remember the lap times that it did out at QR, but it goes quite well netherless.
I was told a few years back that 200Hp is possible for an a series engine but it would cost thousands!!! and the reliability of the A-series is heavily reduced
As my father still says to me-
"THE MORE THINGS YOU DO TO AN ENGINE, THE MORE THINGS THAT CAN GO WRONG!"
If the a-series hasn't got its reliability, then it's nothing! it just like a regular peice of sh#t!
That's my 2c!!!!!!!!!!
But what do i know?????????

 Re: A15 200hp ?
that looks to me like a torque curve only, for some reason using 2 different measurements, one being hp?. a highly worked little n/a 4 cyl does not have a fat flat power curve like that, it looks more like an S, if that dyno graph was a power curve, it would be more like something from a diesel or older stock V8, to me i think.
other people with worked A series would have more "peaky" dyno graphs to post to compare?

 Re: A15 200hp ?
I'd say 125 at the wheels is in the range of 157 - 167 at the flywheel. It depends a bit on the driveline.

I could post my dyno charts from last year's 1995cc L18 built by Stewart Wilkins. This was a very torquey engine. It hit 100bhp at the wheels by about 4200rpm, peaked at 148bhp at 5600rpm and pretty much held that until 6600rpm then nosed over. The engine had forged pistons, custom destroked L20 crank, heaps of headwork, tuliped valves from the 'states, .600" lift cam, 10.2 CR running on optimax, and twin 45s.

 Re: A15 200hp ?
Interesting ......
my dyno sheet had a reasonably linear climb to about 6100 and then held for the next 1000 before starting to drop. Maybe different types of dyno show curves differently - I'm no expert at all but it just looks a bit strange If it's fair dincum then good luck to him - wish I had 150hp flywheel let alone rear wheel
Cheers
