The black sills & the area under the front bumper certainly change the look of it. Makes it seem as if it's sitting 4" [100mm] higher in this picture.
A very diferent look.

actually lifted the front to match the ride height of the back when i got it. the extra clearance came in handy quite a few times on some of those dirt tracks to secret surf spots
the black sills were there mainly to cover up bog and dents ..... the whole car had been painted with exterior house paint and a brush when i bought it, but it came with an unmodded a12gx and the 5spd for $1600. the paint was the last thing on my mind, 1st wash it got was with 180grit wet and dry on an orbital sander to try and get the brush strokes out of it

suprisingly little really ... bottom of the guards, a little at the rear of the sills, not much else .... just really rough (sh!tfully rough!!!!!) matt white house paint.
never had the time or $$$ for body work or paint back then ..... just had to go faaaasst

sure did alot of good memories from it ..... my first 360deg plus flat spin on a wet road, breaking the little cardbourd tray thing in the passenger's foot well, while trying to ... you know ... with the miss', airborn for a good 10m across a train line near where i used to live, squashing 4 people in the back seat and 2 in the front to get to the pub ...... the list could go on and on....

mate, that is a classic! everyone has a bodgy first car, i had a purple 1600 with a paintjob similar in quality to your thousand. great memories! what the hell is the deal with the front end there??? looks whack!

mine ended up getting stripped for parts in my street in collingwood over a number of months. its a wonder the council didn't winge at me. the rego ran out and there was too much rust to try and sell it!

just in case anyone was wondering, yep - it has no running gear. the wheels are there to fool the local law enforcers... and it worked!

A14 block, a12gx head, machined 1600 valves, dbl valve springs, match port and polished, 10.5:1 comp, twin 40mm dellortos, regraphed points dizzy, 4-1 extractors, 2.25" exhaust, close ratio 5spd box (around 90hp at wheels with the orig twin su's), 120y borg warner diff and drums, koni rear shocks, reset front spring with extra leaf, front re-valved oil shocks, scorpion rear discs with datto 1600 calipers, original master cylinder, 14" ET pulsar rims 195/50 toyo tyres, saas racing seats, 4point harnesses, reasonable stereo and delux dash no cracks ........... and would you beleive i sold the lot and spares of nearly everything for a measly $2000 back around 1995
