Beaut car.

The S1 badges, what do they signify? Is it a special Portugese thing? Like the SSS in New Zealand?

The Datsun 1200 S1 was a sporty modified version sold in Portugal by Entreposto-Nissan. Portuguese dealer

Mechanical changes
* double valve springs
* free flow exhaust system
* head work (+compression)

they claimed more 6 HP at the time.

Interior:
* Tach meter
* oil pressure
* amp meter
* center console
* Smaller sport Driving wheel

Body:
*Modified guards flares (so enlarged weels will not hit the body)
*Big Horizontal stripe in each side of the car (see pre-restoration pics)
*Different front grill, painted black and without the center datsun badje
* fog lights
* S1 badges front and back
* Enlarged 12" Weels

This is a rare car in Portugal, I only have seem 3 or 4.

There are rummors about a S2, I never seen one and dont have the specs.

I'd always thought that the SSS was the only performance 1200 apart from the GX and GX5. I reckon that the 1200 must have more enthusiasts in a per surviving car ratio than any other (originally) non-performance car!

That is cool. You know that my dream datsun would have 12 inch wheels and tires,too bad there are no variety of 12 inch tires. Imagine a 12x10 wheel with 295 50 12 tires.It would be great. Little and wide wheels and tire give Datsuns(1200 and 120y's,my current ones) ...a look of tough toy cars. 16 inch wheels ,any large wheel ,in my opinion,make the car look as if it is too small for the wheels,it just does not do it. Branco,do you know what sizes of 12 inch tires are available in Europe? I ask in europe because you live there ,and also because in england there are all this small cars like minis,and in italy they have the fiats,and in eastern europe there are a lot of weird stuff,like fiats made in other than italy countries with different names,and all this cars haver small wheels. I wish I could show you guys what I mwean,a 12 X10 wheel with a 295 or 265 50 12 tire,it would look as a tomka toy car,and the diameter is good,instead of having huge wheels with wimpy tires ,you have more rubber,and low profile tire,it is not a stock tire,it is a good low profile. Nice wheels and tires. My car has 13X8 wheels ,stretched like yours,(stock steel,like yours,but 13's),and I painted them black,black wide wheels look like strong blocks,like the formula one cars with wide black wheels,I like that look. Chromes? never,I am an enemy of chromes,anything chromed I paint.

Thanks!

They are enlarged 12" standard wheels, with 165/60 - 12 marshall tires.

Don't know how wide.
