 Re: for meat_rack
which one of the bosch coils is it,ie a hec715,a mec717,etc.it's just i used a mec717 with an n12 pulsar electronic dizzy in a race engine,& after 6 months the engine lost it's edge.it was because the coil wasn't up to running the dizzy.i put a mec723 into it,& burnouts were back on the menu.i now use a hec715 in my race sunny, with no problems.i think the mec stands for medium energy coil,& the hec should
stand for high energy coil.at $80 for a coil, getting the wrong one is an expensive mistake.

 Re: for meat_rack
i installed my ignition today
question
is there ment to be a moduel between the coil and the dizzy
it ran fine for about 5 minuts and then just died so i took the dizzy in to the auto electrician and the told me it is stuffed
and it should have had a moduel

You would normally have a low level trigger that switches the module, its like running your headlights without a relay. sooner or later it will burn out the switch.

It totally depends on the brand of module you have. Is it a Pertronix? The Datsun ones do not use anything between module and coil.

Are they made to run on a 12volt coil?
If they have their own ignition module included in that little pickup. To me its a bloody tiny module. How big a spark plug gap can be run by this ignition? and how big a gap was actually run on this now no good ignition?

 Re: for meat_rack
If you read www.pertronix.com it states:
Quote:
System is designed for use with most point-type coils, optimal performance achieved when used with our Flame-Thrower 40,000 volt coil.

That tells me it isnt designed to run on a 12volt coil. It can run on a normal points coil with a ballast resistor fitted.

Further down the page it states:
Quote:
Works great in stock point-type distributors as a trigger for multi spark CD ignitions, eliminating the need for expensive aftermarket distributors.

That tells me its only a trigger which is required to send a signal to an external ignition module

It works great for me but its definately only designed to run with a points style coil or with a resistor. Its not a high energy kit. The fireball 2 is. Although not high energy I have found it heaps better than points response wise and starting wise.

 Re: for meat_rack
thats one thing i did notice was the way it started unfortunatly i didnt have it working long enough to notice the responce
i think maby the resistor was missing from the equasion this may have been my problem
ill put it down to a bad learnin experiance

Dont need a coil pack. Coil packs are for electronic fuel injected cars which are controlled by the computer and not a dizzy.

 Re: for meat_rack
So the dizzy(moded) connects the two wires to the coil. But what connects the coil to 4 spark plug leads?

the spark goes from the coil through the ignitor through the rotor button on to the dizzy cap to the leads then the spark plugs and then bang

Well i figured that you have them all linked some how and there is one for each plug

Anyone know how it all connects?

its just setup like a normal dissy. the coil has one lead that goes to the middle of the dissy cap and the module helps it distribute spark to each cylinder. individual coil packs are a different sort of systemwhere a computer controlls a coil ignighter that sends a signal to a coil pack to fire each cylinder. totally different setup.

and the timing is done by the crank angle sensor becouse there is no dissy which is also controled by the computer is this right
