primered the scatter guard then sprayed in gloss enamel, came up ok for an extremmly bent piece of metal!

Im not too worried bout the dents, afterall it is a scatter guard to protect the engine from flying objects!
And after all, it isnt a show car

It also aids in cooling of the engine by way of creating a depression behind the radiator.

So a reflective colour isnt good then? Im sure that minimal temps will be absorbed by this guard...

No, Colour is unimportant. It relies on air flow.
