I can't possibly agree.

While this paint job is just right for a race car, it makes it look like a clown car for regular street duty.
The multicolour scheme would have cost more to apply & it would be added to the price of the car, which was marketed on it's virtues of low purchase price, low running costs & low maintainance costs.

The average car buyer is conservative & this kind of paint job would drive them off down the road to a competitors showroom where they could buy a normal car.

Nice paint job, but not for showroom models.

I should have made myself more clear I was refering to the low, pumped, fat tyred stance this car has. The paint job is very 80s fluoro disco looking.

I agree. Given the fact that the B210 120Y was so succesfull due to its mileage/ KPG....that made it a hot sell. There should had been a 120Y GT , B210 Special...something to show its potential. The sport model would had been sold with lower suspension, wider tires/wheels , perhaps the L motor or a real peped up dual carb A engine.

Lack of vision...perhaps big corporations make so much money ( Nissan, Toyota....business like that, specially back then) that they did not want to complicate things. From a business point of view, the less problems and complicatons the better.

What we see as an opportunity the Co. saw as complication. If anyone wants a sports Datsun, there is the Z cars.

Perhaps what we needed was a company like the NZ company that developed the 1200 special...( can't recall the exact name, but there was a 1200 datsun developed by a NZ company that had dual carbs and was tricked up.) or the one that got interested in the PB210 in South Africa creating the 140/60Z.
Lack of vision, back then, a performance version B210 would had sold like newspapers.

Remember the U.S. Arab oil embargo in the 1970's when the speed limit was lowered to 55mph?

Imports were marketed on the basis of being economical & reliable, not aggressive & sexy.
