sitting in the one spot is boring but try cranking a burnout at around 100-120kph. the pleasure is unbeliveable when you see smoke pouring from the tyres at this speed. there is nothing wrong with expressing your feelings in whatever way you want and if burnouts outs do it for you, the go for it.

and if cops see you, then it is even more fun trying to get away (apart from the skid marks in your undies), and get away i did

This kinds of burnout is very unpolitically correct in anyones street. In NSW, I wouldn't do it. All it would take, is for a neighbour to say.."See those on the marks on the road, that young hooligan over the road did it"...I'd lose my license and car for three months.

Burnouts in Suburban residential streets were a part of history..so I thought.

I found a nice burnout street near the zigzag railway at lithgow. I'm kicking myself that I didn't take any photos. The road surface was >50% rubber. It's a road that comes out of the bush when you go to the glow worm tunnels. It was next to a railway line.

People in the US, don't understand burnouts either. The Porta Ricans like burnouts.

Burnouts defined:

1. Noisy
2. Need a powerful car (Hyundais need not apply)
3. Leaves marks (A bit like graffitti)
4. Smoky (A bit like fireworks, associated with fun)
5. Old people hate it (statement against authority)
6. A statement that the cost of tires is not important to you.

It's basically a form of expression used by males who have trouble expressing themselves in more traditional ways... Possibly a male brain defect.

Plus it's fun!

yes it is noisy and smoky. It is also dangerous (on public roads), anti-social, immature, and pointless. Oh yeah, and smells foul - just what people want drifting through their homes, a big waft of burning rubber.

Where's the fun? Is it showing off in front of your mates, thinking you've got a tough car and some sort of special skill? Or is it some primal sexual display or something?

If you think you're so good and your car's so tough, go to a drag strip or something. For only $30 bucks you can go and impress hundreds of people who actually want to see that kind of ####. What are you afraid of? Or go to a burnout comp, which probably only costs about the same as a pack of winnie blues...

Rebelion? - usually get this out of your system in your adolescence. These blokes are 23! And Chris, you're bloody 30!!! Haven't you got it out of your system yet? I guess it could be a sign of emotional underdevelopment, or it could be symptomatic of your place in society's class structure. Or maybe you're just hoons.

Like I used to say...your foot slid of the clutch and the other one could not get to the brake pedal in time, just look at the swerve marks was that the time you looked down to find the brake pedal? Dangerous yes but so is swimming in the sea....

burnouts are good and bad for different types of people.

try hillclimbing,the other side of motorsport were burnouts are excepted & necessary to a good start.that was my excuse anyway.it was always amazing,all these people coming up to you & saying 'is that really necessary',then at the next event (or run),there they are,smoke pouring off the tyres to get some heat into them.plus,a good burnout is an art,especially with only 1200-1300 cc's to play with.

I'm just trying to understand why people enjoy it. I think my earlier analysis is close to the mark. But I also think the people who partake in this form of "expression", don't think about the danger, the noise or the smell and the effect it has on people who's hormones and adrenalin levels aren't at the same insane levels. It is an immature act. I'd agree.

Did you used to skid the back tire on your pushbike? To see the mark on the footpath, or to hear the noise? Just about every kid I know does. I think burnouts are an extension of this behaviour.
