Rollmaster chain & sprockets $95 (bargin!) - supposed to be mulitple key way but they 'supposedly' dont make them anymore for Datsun A series donks. Weird..
Degree wheel with really good instructions
Kincrome dial in gauge, bloody imperial though!

 Re: New bits
Im finally getting my head around this cam timing business, its taken me a while ( i am slightly retarted me thinks ) so dialing in ATDC (absolute top dead centre) is definatley on the cards hence the degree wheel.
I need to fabricate a stand kind of thing to rest the gauge for the piston height tho...

I found an article on cam timing by Racer Brown, really useful

Dave

oh and i ordered a set of pistons (could not get just 1 ACL didnt want to break a set up) but 4 is going to cost me roughly $95, good price considering just one was going to cost me $45!!

While you are in the buying mood. shout yourself a magnetic base for your dial indicator. Will make dialling in you can so much easier..........

They may not have been able to supply you with a multi-Keyway crank gear, but there is nothing stopping you from making a multi-dowel hole cam gear.

Without this, you won't have a lot of options, bar stock!

Oh, when redrilling, keep well away from the other hole and disregard the marks.

PS, turn the engine over by hand when first assembled at least twice, to be sure, to be sure. . .

 Re: New bits
Yeah thats what i meant by 'supposed to be mulitple keyway'! Yes i will be drilling say another 2 dowel holes in the sprocket for adjustment but not at the moment... Im on a tight time schedual - exams enclosing very soon & last days of skool! Parents want it going by next week so expect some more stupid posts from me!

Magnetic base? what for the dial indicator to rest on the block, i was just going to use kind of a tripod thing to hold the gauge on...

Anyone else used one of these rollmaster kits?
Dave

I have the rollmaster " adjustable " sprocket and chain kit for sale. It is new an unused in its box. PM me if interested.

 Re: New bits
Before drilling holes, see if you can do a mock setup & check the actual cam timing with what you have.
You really need only to install the crank, one lifter, but two if you want, & one rod & piston assembly, along with the cam & this cam drive kit for testing purposes.

The last two engines that i built came out dead on the money with stock positioning. Good luck, or good engineering? I don't know, but it worked out well.
If the timing is off, then fix it, but if not, ....

 Re: New bits
I went to the engine shop yesterday and we figured out that at TDC (non firing) my inlet needs to be .043" on the inlet and .036" on the exhaust. This is accounting for tappet clearance and rocker ratio... So all i have to do now is mock up no 1 piston with two rods, find TDC, and use my dial indicator to show if at TDC inlet = .043" etc...

And if i cant figure it out im just going to take it into the shop, i need someone to show me there on the spot THEN it will stick in my head.
