Topgear,
Do you machine the spiral gears inside the unit or are these supplied to you already manufactured. I have been trying to find a supplier of these type of gears for some time.
If these behave as well as the production Torsen units then you are onto a good thing. Well done.
Another question - do these LSD's become open centres if one of the drive wheels is off the ground which can happen from time to time in rally.

Cheers,

Paul.

I think this is a great option for us guys who have dreamt of LSD for out dattos.
However wouldnt it be better to do them for a h190. Youll have a larger market for them and also would last longer with the beefier axles guaranteed for future power upgrades? Also Ive seen alloy carriers for the H190 so far more often than for the rare H165 out of old datto 1600 wagons.

I dont know why but LSDs for the 1200 diff (H150?) aren't that hard to find here, I know a guy with three of them. The H165 ones are a bit harder to find but you can still get them from Nissan (genuine Nismo part). There is a guy selling one for $1800. Im going to use the H165 as I dont think the H150 (standard one) is strong enough, even with an LSD. If you dont mind the extra weight and modification then H190 is probably the way to go.

I dont think it matters which diff it is for. but personally i think there will be plenty of business for the H165 diff, as these diffs are very popular and used in most 1200 race cars (Aseries) and still plenty of street dattos with them. But it seems as long as there is 10+ customers for any type diff there shouldnt be any problems? turbogear?

Hey Paul, yes they will spin the inside wheel, IF the wheel is actually off the ground! In saying that all diffs will do that to a certain degree, even a clutchpack LSD.

What do you need the little gears for???

Since putting the LSD in the car is totally different to drive! Its only a 1000 Coupe with A15, weber, cam, extractors & 2" exhaust. But does awsome donuts and has never open wheeled since I put it in, and to drive around you wouldnt know it had an LSD as it doesnt lock and clunk like a clutch pack LSD.

Imagine, NEVER spinning that inside wheel again!!

I was looking for a supplier because I was going to design and build my own torsen style unit after seeing a baby one out of a formula SAE car. Designing and manufacturing the little buggers from scratch is a lot of work and if I could have found something already in production that I could have used it would save me heaps of machine and set up time.
I gave the idea away when I couldnt find the manufactured ones
Feral has made a good point in another thread - he states that they behave a little like a centre that locks and unlocks depending on the loads applied and have a tendancy to show mid corner push, a bit like a spring loaded locker in that regard but not as prehistoric in design. These Torsen type diffs are, I believe, better than a spring loaded locker and not as progressive as a well set up clutch pack LSD, but your estimated pricing per unit reflects this. Still seems like good value for those that dont have design and manufacturing experience and/or access to a good machine shop.

LEMONHEAD - price of around $800 is mentioned in another thread somewhere, thats small production run price at 10 off units.

i was just looking at this lsd threadand wondered if you supply a new pinion or can u use existing? as i was under the assumption that if u use the worn pinion on a new diff gear that it will not mesh properly, and wear out. me and a mate replaced the centre in his 200b and it never worked properly and made alot of noise even after we took it out and re fitted it????
