Look what I got today!! Time for an engine change for the 120y. Dyson rotory will be rebuilding it for me in the next couple of weeks. I want to finish it by power cruise .

Not really sure yet I want to disuss it with Dyson, I don't really know much about rotarys except they go fast and sound great (maybe alittle more than that) but that's the joy of cars and engines learning new things ,making lots of horse power and pushing it to the limit.

Ok, cool....let us know how you go with it. I say go for a nice big lumpy bridgeport. Nice and noisy!
And ignore any sarcastic, or "dodgey" comments about your choice of motor , the rotor is an awesome choice, you'll enjoy it.

Hey, what I say?
I say that 120Y is good choice of car.
I say nothing of piston-scribe-epitrochoid-curve motor. [did I spell it right?]
I think only of car.
Good choice.
One out of two is not total loss, yes?

[The foregoing was provided only so that MadTimo would not be dissapointed in me]

 Re: 12a rotary
epitrochoid.....yeah its spelt right (its not that long since I was at school).....but I'm not sure if it relates to a rotor. My understanding of an epitrochoid curve is when one circle rolls around the outside of another. The curve is drawn as a distance from the centre of the outside circle. But don't ask me to remember any parametric equations.
Anyway, I can't see how this relates to a rotor....
A - Because there are no circles in a rotor
B - Because the rotor moves around the inside of a rotor housing
Yes?? No?? I could be wrong, it happened once before

Anyway, my point was that posting in a thread that is about her new rotary engine and nothing else, and clearly stating (no matter how subtly you think it was) that the rotor was a bad choice (matter of uninformed opinion) will always start an argument (which it has).
My simple advice, which I should have taken myself, was to ignore these comments.

By the way, here's a nice 12A turbo 5-speed that would go very nice. Supposedly a very rare gearbox too!

From the way I remember it, the way rotaries were described back when they were newly released was with a diagram which supposedly showed how the triangular 'piston' scribed an 'epitrochoid curve' in its travels through a full cycle. Can anyone confirm or refute?
I just needed an excuse to use the word.

Regardless of what I may or may not think of using these engines 'in Datsun cars', I still think the 120Y [which was refered to in the caption as the recieving vehicle] is all too often regarded as the ugly duckling, but with the right treatment, it quickly becomes a beautifull Swan. If I can encourage the resurection of a small Datsun with a few encouraging words, then I will do it.

As to your advice, yeah, it's good advice for all of us. Maybee we all should heed it sometimes.
I really only did it to offer some small ammusement in response to your encouragement At least Ange enjoyed it.

 Re: 12a rotary
Ok so me and dattochick pulled the 1200 engine out and have the engine block dummied in the engine bay and ready to make the engine mounts ....Yep the bridge port sounds good mad timo .(We have no neighbours ) .My brother had a extended port in a cappella LOUD AS.
As for the movement of the internals of the rotary. I think they go round n round ,side to side a piston engine goes round n round up n down

Congratulations on a great choice of car. We need to see more 120Y's around.
