The Nissan Motor Company of Japan has deliberately crashed hundreds of cars as part of its safety research programme. This might, at first, sound like an expensive way of doing things. But it's the only sure way of discovering how to make a car as safe as is humanly possible. As a result of this research, numerous safety features have been incorporated into the Datsun 1200 range

Interesting to note that both the clock & radio were options in this JDM 1200 Deluxe coupe [lower pic] The package tray was a Deluxe-only item & was not available as an option for other models, which identifies this car as a Deluxe
This one has the clock, but not the radio.

Australian DeLuxe models had the package tray, the console & radio as standard fitment, with the clock as an option.

It would have been very unusual to see a standard model with a clock, but no radio in Australia as most Aussies wore a watch, so the radio would normally be selected instead of a clock.

You have eagle eyes. yes, this is not an Aussie model, it is from a 1973 South Africa brochure. I'm meaning to tie all the photos together (someday) into an article on the South Africa 1200s.

EDIT: Complete Brochure here: Brochure
