There is FLUX in the CORE of the wire.

MIG seems to have become just a generic term for any point and shoot wire feed welding. Some how "I fluxcore welded the blah blah blah back together" doesn't have a nice ring to it.
Nice job on the radiator support.

Well done Freak,
modifications that aren't noticeable or look factory are the best way to go You will notice the extra air and cooler temps! I widened mine the same way and it is worth the extra effort for 'factory' appearance.
Cheers

Decided to open up the radiator for some proper airflow rather than having half of it hanging behind. So it looks factory i cut the radiator support out and then widened the front and welded the support back in so it looks nice and neat. Better than just cutting it and leaving it lopsided. Plus it now sits central rather than slightly off centre.

 Re: Modified radiator support
Hey any tips on MIG welding. I got one of those cheap gasless ones awhile ago and tried it out last weekend on some scrap sheetmetal. Man all I manage to do was blast holes through the thing. Obviously I need to work on fine tuning the wire feed speed and work on my technique...but any tips would be welcomed.
I won't be going near the Datto till I've sorted things out.

Gasless? I thought that MIG stood for Metal, Inert Gas. Without the gas wouldn't it just be a 'M'
How do they prevent oxidisation at the weld without a flux or other method of excluding oxygen?

Thanks John. I just jumped in and gave it a go and learnt as i went and now im pretty good i think.

Mines only a cheapish gasless Mig. Not bottom of the range and nowhere near a good one but of taught myself to work around its shortfalls. The main tips i can give is change your wire to CIG weld. As soon as i did this i stopped burning holes in everything. And change the tip. Just buy one from the hardware store. They flow mush nicer than the ones that come with them. Weld in short little bursts that overlap each other. In quick succession so they bond properly. If done right you dont see any join marks. Gasless dont have the nice flow/spread of a Gas Mig so take your time and dont try and spread one big weld across a join. Lastly keep the tip as close as possible and guide it slowly. Dont force it or it will spatter and what not.

Dodgeman gasless MIGs use a different wire as we all know. As im led to believe the gas is released as the wire burns creating a similar effect to a actuall gas mig. (still not as good though)
