Hey there. Obviously sand balsting your coupe looked effective and im shure it was but i hve heard that sandblasting can remove quite a lot of unwanted material with it and make panels to thin (this is why some people would nver sandblast there car, only other parts)

anyway... what do you think as you have had it done? worth it ?
Cheers.
Just getting your pinion

Chris

p.s. looks super fantastic

Wow looks great, on a rotisserie. my dads wagon was built like this, and the sand blasting looks very effective.

The chances that it was 'sand blasted' are low. It was very likely done with a much less drastic abrasive & at pressures much lower than normally seen when using 'sand'

When I needed paint removal on my coupe, it too went to the 'sandblaster' & he did it with lime blasting. These professionals have a wide range of abrasives available to them to allow a proper job on all sorts of surfaces.

I'm about to have this done to my 1000 coupe, what did it cost you to get done? I've rung a few places in Adelaide and the prices vary heaps. Cheers. Adam.

 Re: Back from the sandblaster1
Because of the rust the car was "SAND BLASTED" both inside and out and underneeth. I know it was sand blasted because sand is still comming out of places. you can't see it in this photo but the only panel not blaster was the roof, it would of stretched it.

I think there are better ways of removing paint but if its rust you want to get rid of nothing else is better.

I have had a very close look at it i can't see any problems and now i have good clean metal to work on.

You better get some primer/sealer on there before it starts to rust away. I would imagine its already starting to show light rust. When you open up the metal like that it just takes off from the humidity in the air.

Im a painter .... I know things

Not sure about the colour, i think of the yellow car as DEAD. so i might paint the new one blue. and yes the car was lightly primed at the sandblaster to stop it rusting.

 Re: Back from the sandblaster1
just to clear a few thing up about sandblasting
we use coarse grit and i have blasted quite a few cars with this stuff it does not take steel off you panels unless you keep blasting the same panel after you have already taken paint, etc off (and mind you, you would have to sit there for an hour on the one panel to make any difference to the thicknes)
sandblasting may warp larger panels if the person blasting it doesnt know what they are doing
YOU WILL most defiantly warp the bonnet if it is blasted i have blasted one and not warped it but it took longer then blasting the whole car! much quicker to paint strip it
your car will put on 50-100kgs due to sand getting into the sills etc. you wwill have to blow it all out other wise it will get water in there and rust out plus in 5 yrs you will have sand coming out of everywhere

you dont have to really turn the pressure unless its for huge weak panels
if you take your car to the blasters and they say they can do bonnets get the f*ck outta there asap
if anyone in the sydney or country area wants a car blasted properly pm me

 Re: Back from the sandblaster1
sodablasting is much better for blasting cars because the finish isn't so rough and abrasive, especailly newer cars cause the panels r thinner than older cars and r prone to warping. I've seen the sandblaster at work strip paint off a ford with sodablasting, with out even leaving a dent in the steel. it does'nt leave any pits whatso eva, it all depends on the operater, like any hting i spose. As the guy posyted the photo said he only used sandblasting because of the amount of rust the was in his dato.
Seems to me that you suffer from 'know-it-all-itis'! ur only 17, how r u spose to learn anything when u think u know everything? u seem to b a jack of all trades, but master of none! GET OVA URSELF!!!

You need to right click on the image itself. A box appears, & at the botton is the word 'properties'
Left click on that & you get another box. This one has the URL of the actual image itself. Highlight this URL & 'copy' it.
Go back to the 'post' box & press the IMG button, then 'paste' the captured URL into the waiting space &,..... well, I think you know the rest.

Just remember, you must right click on the image that you want to show.

Edit
Darn, beaten by 3 seconds.
Image now removed.

 Re: Back from the sandblaster1
I absolutely swear by sandblasting. There is no other good, effective way of achieving a decent surface when restoring, particularly around door edges and inside the engine bay/ boot.
The only downside is that it can be somewhat 'soul destroying' when you get your baby back laid bare with the full effects of 35 odd years of corrosion not to mention the odd repair or two staring at you!
As far as suspension goes the bead blaster is the ultimate- fast and fantastic on rubber as it doesn't eat it up, just brings it up to a new, fresh and clean appearance.
