I had a similar problem. Here in SA the original keys used were KEY00-00035 or KEY00-00055 depending on the year. I was given an OEM ignition with no keys and in unknown condition. So I ordered KEY00-00055 (KEY00-00035 is out of production unfortunately, I prefer its design) hoping I could get a locksmith to cut a key for me. Well, after getting a few opinions, the ignition barrel is damaged and no locksmith I've gone to is willing or able to replace it.
So my only other option was to find a used OEM one, which is nearly impossible, or find an aftermarket unit that's compatible with the OEM Nissan keys. None of the aftermarket ones here are compatible with the OEM keys but I did find one that is compatible with KEY00-00036 or KEY00-00056.
I ordered some of those keys and I'm using them with the aftermarket ignition for now. I'm going to hang onto the KEY00-00055's and hope I find a new barrel or used OEM ignition one day.
