Way Rich

Subject: Way Rich

Okay, remember I was asking you guys to help me figure out why my car was misfiring/spitting and sputtering above 5500 rpm before? Well I figured out the other day that my alternator was
going bad. My car has done the same thing before with a bad alternator, so I put a new one in along with a new fuel filter. I drove the car around for a little while, and it was running
really rough. Still doing the pinging stuff, but running rough. I pulled over for a while at idle, and it was smoking up a storm, running really rich. I got home, pulled the intake and
there was a brown oily residue in the intake all the way down into the combustion chamber. I noticed the same type of residue spit out in the engine compartment around the carb openings.
Anyways, the plugs that were reading really perfect (lt. brown) yesterday are now totally black. So, all of the sudden my car is running really rich.

I thought I had a leaking intake gasket that was leaning out the engine at high revs, but now I don't know. My dad suggests a bad head gasket, but everything looks normal. Any
suggestions?
