I cant be certain as to the cause of your problem but I have seen this before on an A series race engine. After much investigation it was traced back to the standard rocker arms and support shaft overheating and running the contact surfaces dry of oil. This was caused by high lift race cams with aggresive ramp angles and heavy duty double valve springs placing too much load on the base of the rocker bores (engine ran 8500rpm). This of course led to similar damage shown in your pic and took a long time to figure out. I cant understand how this could have occured in a street engine
Lack of oil, overheating, excessive wear/clearance somewhere else or just faulty materials during manufacture
By the way, the problem that occured in the race engine just mentioned was resolved by turning up some T6061 rocker spacers to increase the oil pressure at the rockers.
