There were two different size transmission tailshaft diameters in the 1200, the standard 4-speed and the automatic. These two sizes were the same for the later A series 4 and 5-speeds. I have seen both sizes in 4-speeds and 5-speeds. Automatics were always the larger size. The 5-speeds were usually different clutch splines from the 4-speeds but again, I have seen both splines on both 4-speeds and 5-speeds. Not only for the top speed, it is hard to beat the gas milage that the 5-speed achieves and it is well worth the extra time and money it takes to put one in. I get up to 65 MPG with an A14 & 5-speed in my 1200. Mareo
