Look at this thread: http://datsun1200.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=31135&forum=1#185477
I've also found out some added information. The location of the cam drive on the E crank might allow for a custom A series spec lower sprocket (thicker). Also the longer crankshaft length would require a custom flywheel. Remember the rod journals are 40mm not 45mm as on the A series. The rod length will need to be considerably shorter than in the E series as well, because of the shorter A series deck height. Crower makes Honda 1237cc rods that use 40mm journals. These might work if the big end width is wide enough, but that I haven't checked. They will also need custom pistons as well. Some have suggested big bore motorcycle rods as well. I haven't researched that at all.
It looks like the E16 crank could fit but the custom peices (Pistons, rods, flywheel, cam sprocket) make it far from bolt in.
