When you apply some logical thinking the only difference between a crossflow and non crossflow design is heat soak under inlet manifolds with one design,Air/fuel mix is sucked in follows piston down the bore then is pushed upwards and compressed then ignited pushing piston downward and after a set point exhaust opens,do you think that after all that the spent gases give a damm which side the exhaust port is on. That type of thinking is one of the greatest traps when it comes to asessing whether an engine will make a good race motor or make good power, just have a look at what they are achieving with some of the early Volvo non crossflow engines power wise .who needs 4 Valve or DOHC.
