if its billet then it should have the same base circle as a stock cam, if its been ground then it will have a smaller base circle than stock...thats generally anyway, some cams you cant go any bigger than the stock lobes as you then wont be able to fit them through the cam journals so even the billet ones have smaller base circles
casting marks are a good way of checking also, as a billet cam will have been machined out of a billet so shouldnt have casting marks i wouldnt that thought

to check the duration of the cam, only way ive heard of doing it is putting it on a cam grinding or similar machine and finding out that way...which costs just as much as getting a stock cam ground anyway
