If you want a straight up answer over which engine is better, the sr20 is going to be the truth, and by some margin. don't get me wrong the ca18 isn't 'bad' by any means, just that the sr20 is particularly resilient to a fair bit of boost on a pretty much standard un-opened motor as long as you get enough fuel and keep the intake charge temps down.

Of course, as everyone says, the rego is the issue. Not easy to get the dattos rego'd with a boosted sr20. Now no way in hell am I suggesting this idea - but some people out there might 'cheat' and register/engineer it with a NA sr20 (or what looks like one) and then put the turbo gear back on there, but you'll be up the creek without a paddle if you are in an accident - even if the illegal engine install had zero to do with causing the crash. So I'm actually bringing this up to specifically say that it is a really bad idea, not that anyone has suggested it.

So as far as legality goes, the CA motor is the go. It will manage what you want, but you'll have to do some re-working of the rear end to enable a ute to hook up well off the line and run times like that. It isn't impossible, but you won't be doing it with a stock rear end (not so much in terms of strength which you might just get away with if you slip the clutch on launch rather than jump off it, but in terms of suspension geometry and adjustment). You'll need sticky tyres because of less than 'ideal' downforce on the rears, and they might end up being of a size that requires some tweaking to fit under there without rubbing.

I'd actually seriously suggest 'starting' the plan with the rear end upgrades - what parts and what setup will be needed and use that as the initial stage of development. In a sense, the motor in front of it won't make a huge difference as to what rear end type and spec to use, because whatever motor you go with will have to put out similar power to run that 11.
