Heavy oils like 10W-40 or even 20W-50 are perfectly fine because of the multiweight rating. It'll flow like a thin 10 weight or 20 weight at temperatures below freezing, yet flows normal even at 100C+ degree engine temperature. Nissan recommends both for the A14 (see chart).
Yes, a good running carburetor will make the car a joy to drive once again.
