Basic Guide: How to install Golf Chin Spoiler to Datsun 1200

Subject: Basic Guide: How to install Golf Chin Spoiler to Datsun 1200
by BigD on 2015/4/14 3:06:27

This is only a basic guide as i just did the installation myself and found there is next to nothing listed in wiki or the internet with helpful tips.

This is a factory 2 piece golf chin spoiler my mate had sitting in his garage for a few years and now its mine. If your building your 1200 and want to modify the front apron you will get a much better cleaner fit, as i have seen around like at Datsun day. One of the biggest problems is the gap you will have between the spoiler and the apron. See step 6.

My method only requires to drill 3 holes and no cutting or painting required. perfect for the 1200 thats already on the road.

I have included a few pics and Please anyone with experience or helpful tips please add them here and we can save this in the Tech Wiki for future use.

STEP 1: Open clean and check chin spoiler is complete and not damaged.

STEP 2: Bolt the two pieces together to make it one piece.

STEP 3: Use two G-clamps and clamp one on each side to the front of the datsun so it holds the spoiler in position for you.

STEP 4: line the spoiler up make sure its centered and at the right height your after. then from underneath mark the holes with a black marker and remove spoiler to start drilling.

STEP 5: once you have drilled the holes your ready to fit spoiler. paint around the holes you drilled to help stop rust starting.

STEP 6: Now this is what i did to fix the gap. Run a piece of waterproof neoprene foam with one sticky side all the way along the spoiler as per pic. i used 12mm x 18mm and fits perfect.

STEP 7: If possible use stainless or Gal nuts and bolts with split washers so it doesn't come loose over time.

STEP 8: The foam will compress between and give you a nice snug fit. You can hardly see the foam and when you tighten up the bolts the panel it will flex a little to make the gap smaller too.

Hope this was helpful
