The vortec 2200 sure does look attractive, now that I check it out. I'll look around at the junkyard next time I'm there.
(It's a huge drag fitting any sort of large transmission in this car. There's no transmission tunnel, which is nice, but the frame is really narrow, getting down to only maybe 20cm between the frame rails just in front of the differential. The 63 series transmission fits beautifully, though.)
