very true
Probably better just bore out an A15 to 78mm bore 10.5 comp, H89 head with casting slags cleaned up, electronic ignition, GX profiled stock camshaft, headers, Roland manifold with 32/36 weber.
90-110hp guaranteed depending on cam grind
but around 3k investment at minimum for most folks.
ca16de or ca18de or 4age will likely need a rebuild by now so about the same price as for an A16 but engineering, trans tunnel work, h165/h190 diff doubles that price very quickly and weight as mentioned.
Otherwise for Nissan brand originality and pride
1. A series with twin cam head by a Mazda, Vauxhall hybrid setup.
2. Ca18de euro 4 port head, ca20e bottom end, spool mitsu 4g63 H rods, ( fit with a slight shaving off the mains side), Honda cast K20 or b20 85.5 or 86mm pistons (same valve angles as ca18de) 2021cc or 2045cc Billet inlet adaptors to suit toyota blacktop itbs, HKS Cams, map ecu
3. Chevy ATK OHV 2 or 2.2 with D A T S U N rocker cover :) colored in datsun colors, bike carbs, stainless headers, schneider cam, t5 box, h190 diff.
