Hitachi sidedraft carbs (SU-style) are almost exactly the same A-series and L16/L18 versions
The material differences are: * L-series has stronger Suction Spring * A and L use different needle valve
And the practical difference is in the throttle linkage. A uses cable linkage, L uses rod linkage (as far as I have seen)
There are only two Suction Springs. So that's an easy change. However there are many needle valves. * I would change the spring and just run the L valve to start with. There are many adjustments you can make. The A valve is for a stock-spec GX engine (hi-rpm, large port) * If you have totally orginal GX or A12T engine (including the cam and exhaust system) then it would be worth sourcing the GX/A12T needle valve #M75
