What would it take to get a Stanza to beat or
match a Race spec Ae86? Balance seems to be the
main strength but the L series is the same weight
as the 4age and can make the same power and even
more with a ka24de head. Wheelbases are the same
and is most of their other dimensions.

AE86 full race specs here halve way down the page
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keiichi_Tsuchiya
Wheelbase 2,400 mm (94.5 in)
Length 4,204 mm (165.5 in)
Width 1,626 mm (64 in)
Height 1,336 mm (52.6 in)
Curb weight 998–1,089 kg (2,200–2,400 lb)

Stanza
Wheelbase 2,400 mm (94.5 in)
Length 4,080–4,310 mm (160.6–169.7 in)
Width 1,605–1,620 mm (63.2–63.8 in)
Height 1,320–1,410 mm (52.0–55.5 in)
Curb weight 870–1,367 kg (1,918–3,014 lb)

Stanza is a fair bit heavier I think, and the L series simply has to be heavier than the little 4AGE. Massive block on the L bangers. But there's no reason a Stanza couldn't be competitive with an AE86 when they're both done up to race specs. They certainly went alright in rallying back in their day. Factory rally cars got the LZ motor and George Fury campaigned one successfully. They look good with the rally flares too
