Don't forget that your positive crank-case pressure will generate strong fumes and smoke. The rocker cover outlet and crank case vent will generate the most fumes and these need to be either plumbed back into your intake or taken through multiple filters or catch cans to reduce the content. I have seen some people plumb the fumes out to the underside of the cab but generally you ought to try to send the fumes through the engine to be burnt and turned into exhaust.
Particularly on tired engines you will find rocker and crank fumes to be excessive and strong.
It's also a good idea to check all your firewall grommets for leaks and seal. Also ensure your exhaust is snug and tight, all of these contribute to a smellier engine.
