OK, so it's not a general japanese usage. Suffice to say Datsun defined "van" as a wagon -- with windows or without.
The B310 Sunny is the first one that I know of with a difference: the VB310 is the squareback, and the WB310 is a slope-back. Again, nothing to do with the windows it has or has not.
