Its actually more common to pair the branches as per his headers 1-2 3-4 or 1-3 2-4 as you get the pulses happening one after another in the same branch, check out the likes of http://www.hytechexhaust.com/ or www.burnsstainless.com if you dont believe me, However the 1-4 2-3 pairing is still common on V8s as I believe that gives the best results for their firing order.
Those collectors and the collector outlet size (which looks too big) are going to have more effect on power than the pairing will. So I wouldnt get too hung up on the pairing
But as he said, he just wants it running so they'll do the job just fine!
