Now performance mods...
I started this thread:
http://datsun1200.com/modules/newbb/v ... hp?topic_id=59762&forum=1

Basically was looking for the best bang for buck performance mods. Originally I was just going to put the A14 into the ute but I drove a ute with a A15 in it which ran great and wasn't a slug by any means, but it definitely left me wanting more. There was no way I'd be satisfied with a normal A14.

I thought turbo would be the go, started that thread and as you can see theres a heap of discussion. Original plan was to get manifolds made, hunt for a cheap 2nd hand turbo of appropriate size and slap together build. Then I started thinking, since the A14 was already out of the car and I had no idea if it ran, the history or condition of the engine that I should do a basic freshen up.

Well I have learnt a thing or two. There is no in between when it comes to mechanical things. You either do nothing, wing it and hope for the best or you do it properly. To me the hassle of getting the A12 out and A14 in, turbo on, oil and water lines connected and ran to turbo, carby jetted and final tune/timing on a dyno was not worth the risk. Like a lot of people say, pay now or pay later. In the end tearing down the A14 was a good call, there was nothing overly drastic wrong but the rings where shot, it needed the first oversize and the head needed freshening up.

Since I knew I was turboing it, I ordered some upgraded bits:
1 set (4) turbo dish pistons 0.5mm - (that need mods)
List 1 set - chrome rings 0.5mm
1 set - std main bearing
1 set - std conrod bearings
1 set - std cam bearings
1 - h/p timing chain
1 - chain tensioner
6 - welsh plugs
1 - can blue paint
1 - full gasket set
1 - 0.6mm race head gasket
1 - ARP Head stud kit
1 - ARP conrod bolt set
1 set of (8) H/P double valve springs
1 - oil pump
1 - offset dowel kit (for dialing in cam)
1 - re-reground turbo cam
1 set of (8) re-faced lifters
1 - water pump

I will post more once the parts arrive and machining begins
