Thanks. Very few states here have annual inspections. So most cars have NEVER been inspected, nor are they required to be inspected. And yet it's extremely rare for accidents to occur due to equipment failure. Even the periodic emissions inspections Washington used to require has ended
In Hawaii they did have annual inspection, but they only check:
* all lights and horn work
* check-engine light is not on
* tires have legal tread
* windows are un-tinted (which keeps the tinting shops busy all the time)
Any amount of rust is OK, holes in the door, etc. is no problem
It makes more sense what your state does, require proof of insurance at the yearly registration. When there are accidents here, often he is illegally driving uninsured. So, we get insurance for their non-insurance. It's a mess!
