#51 More head Trivia
sagemanone Posted on: 1999/7/1 12:37
Hi folks ,
the A14 head can be found in the B210 like my1977 honey bee that I race . I believe that they we're available "74" through "78" and there we're lots of them sold in the USA so a wrecking yard
will be a good supply source. Later models like the F10 and the 210 "79" had A15 engine also the B310 or just 310 I'm not sure of the exact model designation had A14 or A15 engines .
There are even some forklifts out there that had "A" series engines in them !
As far as tricking out any head you already have i.e.The A12,A14 or A15 there are lots of things you can do depending on how adventurous you want to get!!
Port and polish will yeild power gains and 3 or 5 angle valve grinds help also hand grinding the sharp lips in the valve pocket helps the flow into the combustion chamber . The Bronze/
aluminium valve seats don't really need to be replaced but are a bit trickier to put a good multi angle valve job on because you MUST use a cutter NOT a grinder to cut the angles with.
Any reputable high performance machine shop should be able to do any of the work to your head you ask them to do if you ask them for spacific items to be done . If they seem puzzled or can't
answer ALL your questions real easily take your head and run the other way .
If you want real performance and have a LARGE budget check out Mullvern or PEACO (both online )or D.L. Potter in Fremont california(not online )and they can put a super trick head set up for
you . Don't be discouraged and don't be afraid to try to be creative . I heard of guys cutting down L16 valves after modifying the ports and installing the matching seats in an A14 to get
marvelous increases in flow .So let your pocket book and imagination guide you.
One other thing ,Look for the factory goodies like the GX option stuff that could be ordered like the GX duel SU intake ( Iam looking for one myself) And NISMO still has some neat stuff they
sell right out of a catalog . Iam hoping to put a list togather that will be on My web page as to the sources for all the places for the parts we Datsun A/nuts need .
I hope to Launch that web page soon and you will all be invited!!!

Well, your e-mail is very helpful. Im trying to figure out the best combination for A series engine and this sort of stuff helps. I had a A15 with a cam and stock pistons, with
oval port head and GX valves, and twin SUs. It went really well but i know it can have more punch for sure. Smoked up the rear wheels for sure!

#54 Free VW GTI, fits Datsun 1200
tlthehun Posted on: 1999/7/8 3:19
I am reluctantly giving away the GTI seat. It's far superior for everyday use to most aftermarket seats, blue with red pinstriping (Rabbit GTI style). I'd keep it if I
had room. E-mail TLtheHun@aol.com. I live in Mountain View, San Francisco Bay Area, California.
Thanks.

Does anyone have speedometer to spare and maybe sell????

#56 Re: Techameter or speed-o-meter
tlthehun Posted on: 1999/7/11 5:49
I have a spare US-market Datsun 1200 speedometer. I'd have to dig it out of storage and would want $100 for it. E-mail
if interested. TLtheHun@aol.com.

#57 store an engine?
danielblues Posted on: 1999/7/25 7:03
I removed my 1200 engine and I'm planig to store it for at
least an year.
Should I keep the old oil, or drain it?
How can I prevent rust?

any ideas...

daniel

#58 RE: storage for an engine
sagemanone Posted on: 1999/7/27 9:34
Draining the oil is a common pratice.
There are a few things to be mindful of when putting your engine in storage for a while and the most important is keeping dirt out of it while it sits in some dark space waiting to be used
again. So I would use some form of duct tape or simular type tape to seal any openings where dirt or dust can mess things up such as carbs (if still on it ) intake openings ,exhaust openings
or ports and if you have ever seen the pro-stock racers on the T V you would have seen their spare motors completely covered with tightly wrapped plastic sheeting . A little light weight oil
in each cylinder to prevent the pistons from binding is also a good idea too.
Be advised that the carb gaskets will most likely dry out in a year and will require replacing when you go to use it again AND NEVER store the carb with gas in it as it will leave nasty
deposits in it that you fight to get out and is a fire hazard too!
Oh one more thing , if you live where the winter weather can bring sub freezing temps where you store your engine be sure it's dry so not to find a cracked block or head when you get back too
it .

#59 flattop pistons
derekrol Posted on: 1999/8/3 5:32
i'm bilding a A15 motor it has no need for forged pistons juest some good flap
top cast ones

#60 Re: flattop pistons
sagemanone Posted on: 1999/8/4 10:56
If you just want plain flat top pistons you may find that there is no such animal out there.
I have searched most of the online sites for piston manufacturers and they all think that a flat top is special . Check the previous posting that lists hi-po dealers .
Your local Nissan dealer should have a current NISMO catalog to look through and I know they offer a flat top for the A-15 BUT even the just plain flat tops are not cheap
!
Well let us know at the club what you find and
POWER ON man
