ya looking like I may have to scratch the awd but I will keep looking into it until Im sure I cant build it myself. and the trucks no go. I need it to be 1975 or older for one. plus one of the reason im changing cars is because i need more seats. ae 4-5 seats and second with that weight Ill keep my car. I would only stand to loose to swap to that from my datsun.

then for you sir is why they turbo busas lol I thought of it once. not for me lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-sdz-0NWfoc ya they dont, but I dont think you can fit 315 or 295 on stock wheel well of mk3. Mk4 yea. have you guys done anything to maybe balance out the f/r weight ratio? and i cant go to radical on suspension set up because its a street car, I dont want something too unstable to turn because it set up on straight line performance. whats the widest can you put under stock fender?

yea gear box are also second concern which is why dsm was my top pick. the stock can be made to work and if not aftermarket gearbox are available if i decide more power. and ya I understand that but 4 tire traction will give me better traction that 2. whats your definition of mild? power wise I mean. but yes I agree 300whp is plenty for a light car, but for the same reason as I own a litter bike vs a 600cc I just want more power. just as people are happy with 600cc others are happy with 1k+. just preference. really? how big are the tires on the supras? I owned a 500whp mk3 supra before my datsun and it would break loose a 275 all summer kumho tire... from the time I bought it from the store. (yea I regretted that choice lol) I dont see a supra getting traction at 600+whp with 275 or less. those things are way too dam heavy. and ya no auto for me please Quote:
how much power do you have on it? I dont really plan to rally, interested in straight line performance. But yes I understand your point. I guess i just like going faster everytime I upgrade to a different project. Quote:
looks like slicks... if they ever made a slicks that are street legal ill take them in smaller size lol.

yes Im well aware of the cultus. I believe its gti? I dont believe it was marketed in the USA though. I know we have a chevy sprint turbo. cuz I own one lol not awd but cool litle commute car. Im also well aware of the justy(made by subaru?) its also a little awd car. I just found what you mention. 323 gtx. Amazingly light at 2600lbs. Sounds cool... if I can find them, seem to be rarer than my turbo sprint.(which ive only seen one ever and I own it.) In the end might not be worth the trouble if your lucky enough to find one since its still about 4" longer and 4" wider on the track. I would rather stick with dsm if thats the case since both will need body mod/flare. the aftermarket support on the dsm is crazy vs rare/everything custom. Although if i find one may be a good little collector. so in the end out of all these awd dsm are the only one readily available. Theres one for sale now thats a shell- no engine/tranny or transfer case for 350. I may just pick it up but will see.

I wonder how much it weight, I'll see if I can find that.
But that's what I was thinking at first, drop a shell over the 1g dsm, but I think the weight will go up significantly into the 2500? Maybe?I if thats the case I wouldn't be happy with the weight for that much work since a race weight 1g can be lightened to 2700 with removing stuff and zero major fab. If I can get it done and be under 2000 that be awesome. Ya it is but I'm tired of staggered set up and wide tires on this won't look to good, not mention wide tires in small rims are rare or expensive.

1g dsm are the early model eclipse/laser/talons.
If I remember right they are 90-94 models. They have an awd/turbo version. Do you remember if the back seat was lost with mid mount? Ya I was hoping someone has done it. Got a new garage so i got room to build something that can be apart for some time lol I'm not familiar with any Mazda besides the rx7. Any of the awd have a close enought track/wheelbase? And yea but unfortunately once you pass a certain whp no skinny tires is going to grab. Unless I'm missing something here. But a ca18det full upgrade with FMIC, bigger turbo will make this car front heavy if it isn't already so weight transfer wouldn't be very good.

Ops forgot to add that. This is 99.99% street car. My daily driven car. I do back road drags and this comming season I may do acouple of track 1/4 runs.
So no slicks. I do run drag radials 100%. but always switch out to all season during rainy season.

Contemplating selling my datsun 260z with turbo v8 for multiple reason.
Im thinking of getting a 1200 coupe but was worried about traction issues. My car now could not get traction with 275 and even with 325/35r15 it still break loose when boost kicks it in 1st and 2nd. Car is just too light at 400whp So with a 1200 sunny with ca18det @ 350-400whp I don't see it getting any traction with a tiny 195 tire. So what are your secret? Even with 225 I don't see it happening. Which brings me to my other brainstorming. Awd 1200. I saw the post where people suggested gtir but I have not seen those for sale so that's out. I'm thinking of using 1g dsm set up. Anyone have one running? I couldn't find one with a running setup in a coupe. I am well aware that the wheelbase and track width is different but only by a few inches. Nothing a flare and shortening driveshaft can't fix. But I don't think I can tackle this without more info that I found. Which is practically none. Any input would be nice thanks |
